1802 S-235 R3 PCGS graded MS62 Brown, CAC ApprovedThe obverse is a very attractive lustrous light to medium steel brown and tan with underlying very faded mint red peeking through in protected areas. The reverse is a more subdued frosty light olive and steel brown with sea-green overtones and lighter brown and tan in protected areas. The highpoints are free of rub and the only marks are a few small planchet chips on the bust and very light abrasions at the top of the wreath. M-LDS, Breen state V, with a strong rim cud break at RTY. The bust tip and the opposing area around OF are softly struck (as usual in this die state), but everything else is nicely detailed. The fine hair details near the forehead and face are especially sharp. Graded AU55 and CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #39966. Bland says AU55 and tied for CC#3. Our grade is AU58+, very close to MS60. A great cent with a complicated but impressive provenance.Certificate Number: 36314.62/32982299Pedigree: Ex John P. Lyman, S. H. AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2020 and by appointment.
