Sharpness EF40 but dark and covered with fine to moderate granularity, strongest on the obverse. No verdigris or notable marks. Rather frosty dark olive brown and steel. Nicely struck EDS+, Breen state II, with die clashmarks and a fine crack on the reverse. The Error Fraction feature is bold. This is the plate coin for the variety in the 1925 Newcomb reference on the cents of 1801-1803. A sharp cent that comes with a very nice provenance. Ex Howard R. Newcomb, J. C. Morgenthau & Co. 2/16/1945:320-Benson Collection, Goldbergs 2/2001:341-Terry Denman
