Sharpness at least VG7 but there are several obvious scratches in the field before the portrait, all old and blended into the natural toning. Otherwise there are no notable marks and the toning is a rather glossy dark olive brown and steel with lighter chocolate on the devices. Very fine granularity covers the fields and protected areas but there is no verdigris. The date and legends are strong. Graded VG7 net G5 and tied for CC#3 honors in the Bland census. Noyes says VG7 net G4 and tied for CC#5, his photo #28345. This is the Breen plate coin for the variety (the smaller photos on page 637 of his encyclopedia). All the 13 known examples are net graded due to marks or environmental damage so waiting for a choice one might be an exercise in frustration. Ex FUN Show bourse (unattributed) 1/6/1987-John D.
