Mostly smooth but a glass reveals microscopic roughness in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris, and the only marks are a thin nick on the second 1 in the date and a small planchet lamination flake at the top of NT in CENT (as struck). Mostly glossy chocolate and olive brown with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. The date is strong, the Error Fraction feature is clear, and the legends are easily readable. A decent example of this very rare die variety. Graded G4 and tied for CC#8 in the Bland census (which we think is a bit too conservative). Our grade is G5. The finest in the Bland and Noyes census lists grades only net VG8 so waiting for a high grade example would be frustrating. AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 15% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
