1801 NC-1 R5+ PCGS graded AU50Choice glossy light to medium chocolate with some frosty lighter brown in protected areas. Mint frost covers the protected areas, especially on the reverse, and this cent has great eye appeal. Just a few trivial marks and very light wear on the devices. A tiny tick or chip in the field before the forehead is the best identifying mark. LDS, Breen state II, with a linear internal cud break between the die cracks over TES. Graded VF35 and CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF35 Choice and CC#2, his photo #25973. Our grade is VF35+. The reverse grades a solid EF45 thanks to the higher rim on that side. A truly remarkable example of this rare variety; slightly more than three dozen known today with most grading Good or less. This is the Breen plate coin for the variety. Comes with a great provenance.Certificate Number: 36257.50/61275949Pedigree: Discovered unattributed in an antique shop in Berkeley, California, in 1966-Robert W. Miller, Sr.-Walter Breen-Dorothy I.
