Date: 1799Slightly glossy dark chocolate and steel brown. The surfaces are mostly smooth, though there is some light microscopic porosity and faint hairline scratches visible on both sides. The date is weak but can be made out in hand, especially 99. The portrait is mostly visible but the legends are nearly gone, and only parts of the wreath remain. There are appears to be a strong die failure causing a shelf from teh shoulder to the rim at the bust tip, and the area below the failure is clearly lower than the portion above. The shelf follows the die crack described by Breen as his die state VI and plated in Penny Whimsy, but no other example has been reported with this massive failure along the die crack.
