1798 S-165 R4 Style II Hair, Large 8 PCGS graded AU50, CAC ApprovedUniform glossy medium chocolate and olive brown. Smooth with light wear and great eye appeal. No spots or stains, and the only marks are a very faint hairline scratch from the B in LIBERTY down into the hair where it disappears and a light diagonal nick in the field before the brow. MDS, Breen state II, showing light die clashmarks on both sides. Nicely struck except for minor weakness on the bust tip and opposing OF (as usual on this variety). Graded VF35 and CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #20334. Bland says VF35 and tied for CC#2 honors (the CC#1 cent is in the ANS). Our grade is VF35 Choice. A really nice cent and it comes with an important provenance.Certificate Number: 36065.50/32783162Pedigree: Ex John P. Young, M. H. Bolender MBS #181, 9/1951:124-C.
