Glossy chocolate brown and light olive with a hint of reddish chocolate tone around the date and lowest curl. There are a couple light, old scratches on the obverse including one from the field before the chin to the rim before the neck and another from the bottom of the neck to the rim off the bust tip. The only other contact marks of any significance is a light rim bruise at the U in UNITED. The planchet is smooth except for a bit of microscopic roughness in the reddish area below the portrait and in the field left of the lowest curls. MDS, Breen state II, with clear die clashmarks on both sides but no die cracks. Our grade is VF30+ sharpness net VF20+. A relatively new discovery not in the Noyes or Bland database but among the finest known of this tough variety, perhaps CC# 5 or 6 in a comparison with photos of the best examples. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 36065.35/43688443 Ex McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 2/3/2013:288 (lot ticket included)
