1798 S-161 R2 Style I Hair, Small 8, PCGS graded AU53Glossy brown and light chocolate with frost in the protected areas. A sharp cent with light wear on the devices, but there are some small contact marks on the portrait into the field off the lower curls. None of the marks is significant but there too many to ignore at this level of sharpness. Shallow low spots cover much of the field inside the wreath and under the R in AMERICA (as struck); otherwise that side is sharp and choice. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks on the reverse. Graded VF30 by Noyes, his photo #27268. Our grade is EF40+ sharpness net VF35. This is the finest example of the early die state known to us.Certificate Number: 36047.53/52085735Pedigree: Ex Denis W.
