Partly frosty chocolate brown and steel with peeps of flowline luster in protected areas. No corrosion or verdigris, only a few trivial marks. The notable marks are a short diagonal scratch at the left edge of the curl under the hair ribbon, a faint spot of lighter reddish brown toning in the hair at the back of the head, a tiny scratch at the left foot of the N in ONE, and a shallow planchet flake below the berry under the M in AMERICA. Only the spot of lighter toning in the hair is visible without the aid of a glass. Rare TDS, Breen state VII, with a strong cud break connecting the bust to the rim. In addition there is a narrow but clear double profile on the chin and tip of the nose (from die shift or bounce). The obverse of this cent is plated in Dr. Sheldon's Early American Cents and Penny Whimsy to illustrate the late die state. Graded VF30 net VF25 and tied for CC#7 overall in the Noyes census (but second finest of those known with the cud break), his photo #21041. Called VF30 by Del Bland and tied for CC#8 in the Breen/Bland census. Our grade is VF30. Comes with an impressive provenance. AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2020 and by appointment.
