1798 S-146 R5- Style I Hair, Large 8, PCGS graded XF45Glossy light olive and steel brown with lighter brown and tan in protected areas on the obverse. Smooth and quite attractive with light wear and minor marks. There are several tiny nicks on the neck; a light diagonal nick left of the upper lip is the best identifying mark. M-LDS, Breen state III. The curls at the shoulder are incomplete and the shoulder loop is gone, all victims of die polishing to remove rust. Graded VF25 and CC#4 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF25 Choice and CC#3, his photo #26542. Our grade is VF25+. The obverse of this cent is plated in the 1991 Noyes reference to illustrate his die state A (with shoulder loop), but this is his die state B. Regardless, this is a very nice example of a tough die variety.Certificate Number: 36017.45/61275937Pedigree: Ex Richard Picker 1970-Denis W. Loring 9/1970-R. S. "Robbie" Brown, Jr. 11/1976-Denis W.
