1798 S-145 R3 Style I Hair, Large 8 PCGS graded XF45, CAC ApprovedChoice glossy medium brown and light chocolate brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Frosty luster shows in the protected areas on both sides and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. The surfaces are smooth and the only marks are a tiny nick in the field at the throat, a dull nick on the base of the E in CENT, and a trio of tiny rim nicks at STA in STATES. MDS, Breen state IV early. A fine die crack shows over the O in OF and the only buckling on the reverse is confined to that area. Struck on a planchet that shows diagonal reeding on the edge (Breen's planchet type V). Called VF35 and tied for CC#3 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF45 net EF40 and tied for CC#1 honors with one other piece, his photo #24394. Our grade is VF35+, very close to EF40. AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2020 and by appointment.
