1797 S-134 R4 Small Fraction PCGS graded AU55At least five points sharper but (possibly) lightly cleaned and expertly retoned long ago. Very attractive glossy light to medium chocolate brown with hints of frosty lighter brown in protected areas. Regardless this cent has great eye appeal. Smooth with minor contact marks, none notable. A small planchet void in the lowest curl can help identify this cent. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with two strong die cracks to the top of the E in AMERICA. Graded EF45 and tied for CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net VF35 and tied for CC#5. Our grade is EF40+ sharpness net VF35+. An important, very attractive cent. A superior example of the only 1797 with a Small Fraction reverse as seen on some varieties of 1796, and it comes with a wonderful provenance. In addition it is the plate coin for the Small Fraction reverse in Early American Cents and Penny Whimsy.Certificate Number: 35933.55/61275934Pedigree: Ex Dr. George P. French, B.
