1796 S-82 R5 Liberty Cap PCGS AU Detail, ScratchSharpness EF45 but there are numerous fine scratches on the top of the head, and a few of them extend into the field at LIBERTY and the rim above. Fortunately all the scratches are old and blended into the toning. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and show just a few trivial marks. Glossy uneven mix of dark steel brown and frosty tan with some small areas of darker reddish chocolate on both sides. LDS, Breen state II, with fine die clashmarks on both sides. Graded VF30 and tied for CC#5 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net VF20 and tied for CC#7, his photo #22046. Our grade is EF45 sharpness net VF25. A sharp but imperfect cent that comes with a very impressive provenance that is a century old.Certificate Number: 35753.95/57516978Pedigree: Ex Dr. G. F. E. Wilharm, B.
