1796 S-117 R5+ Draped Bust PCGS graded MS61 BrownVery attractive glossy medium chocolate brown with lighter brown in protected areas. Mint frost covers the protected areas and this cent has superior eye appeal. The only significant mark is a light horizontal scratch across the neck. The scratch is old and is lost in the beautiful toning so it does not catch your eye. Otherwise the only other mark is a nick in the hair below the T. MDS, Breen state IV, with a light die crack through RTY to the dentils at either end. Graded EF40 and CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF45 and CC#1, his photo #25259. Our grade is EF40+, close to EF45. This is a fabulous example of a rare variety with only 3 examples graded above Fine by EAC standards. This is the plate coin for the variety in Breen's 2000 encyclopedia.Certificate Number: 35864.61/57516989Pedigree: Ex George Roebling, New Netherlands Coin Co 6/13/1967:1207-R. E.
