1795 S-78 R1 Plain Edge, Thin Planchet, PCGS graded XF45Choice glossy light brown blending to chocolate in some of the protected areas. Smooth and virtually void of contact marks. A small spot of darker brown toning (not carbon) under the bust tip and another left of the lowest curls are the only notable marks. LDS, Breen state VI, with crumbling connecting the top of the 5 to the bust. This cent was struck twice. The first impression was slightly off center leaving the top of the cap and much of LIBERTY off the planchet. Then the planchet was flipped over and restruck with bold evidence of the first strike remaining visible on both sides. The strikes were quite strong causing the planchet to spread, and the cent has a diameter of 31 to nearly 32 millimeters rather than the normal 28.5 for these thin planchet strikes. Our grade is VF30. A really impressive mint error in choice condition. The Flip-Over Double Strike feature is noted on the PCGS label.Certificate Number: 35729.45/61275931Pedigree: Ex Ted Kress-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
