1794 S-65 R1 Head of 1794 PCGS graded MS63 BrownLustrous olive and steel brown with traces of faded mint red in protected areas on the obverse. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal of this cent is superb. Looks choice mint state but there is a trace of friction on the very highest parts of the hair. No spots, stains, or contact marks. The planchet is smooth except for the microscopic die erosion lines associated with the die state and some extremely tiny planchet chips at ICA, all as struck. MDS, Breen state IV, Heck 6 early, with fine die cracks and die erosion lines, mostly on the reverse. Tentatively graded AU55 by Bland but unseen by him and tied for CC#2 honors in his census behind an MS60 with planchet roughness. Noyes says MS60 net AU55 (reason for deduction unknown) and tied for CC#2, his photo #27174. In our opinion this piece is clearly superior to the MS60 and the other AU55 pieces in both census lists based on a photo comparison. It has less friction on the hair with better luster and surfaces. Take a look. Our grade is AU58.Certificate Number: 35654.63/57538495Pedigree: Ex a type coin collector from New Jersey (who had owned the coin since the early 1960's) 3/30/1990-Fred H.
