1794 S-57 R1 Head of 1794 PCGS graded AU53Very attractive glossy light to medium brown and light chocolate with frosty lighter brown toning in protected areas on the reverse. Lightly worn with just a hint of friction on the highpoints, but there are some marks. The only significant mark is a short vertical scratch down from the tip of a lower curl to the dentils below and there are a few very light, barely visible rim bruises and tiny rim nicks on both sides, none notable. A small spot of darker olive brown toning at the left foot of the L in LIBERTY is a good identifying mark. MDS, Breen state III, with two clear "trenches" in the field before the face and a depression at the dentil tips over CA. Called AU55 net EF45 by Bland. Noyes says MS60 net AU50, his photo #69662 and again for the same coin AU50 net EF40 as photo #85219. Our grade is net EF45. Comes with an impressive provenance.Certificate Number: 35633.53/81232298Pedigree: Ex Dr. George P. French, B. Max Mehl FPL 1929:36-T. James Clarke 1944-B. Max Mehl #106, 6/1945:1643-B.
