Glossy steel brown and light chocolate. The obverse is quite nice except for a collection of digs at ER in LIBERTY; the reverse was smoothed off and beautifully engraved as (apparently) a love token. HOPE STRATTON 1795 with an ornate border. Research by Ray Medhurst conducted in July 2019 using church records and the Hinshaw Index to Selected Quaker Records, 1680-1940, found a Hope Stratten in Camden, NJ. She was born in the 1780's to Isaiah and Mary Stratten of Camden, NJ. She was a member of the New Jersey Quakers, and she married Abraham Reeves in 1803. Dan Holmes used to say these coins are only worth a penny; it's the story we pay for. Certainly true for this one.
