Sharper but dark and lightly corroded. No verdigris and the only notable marks are some old scratches hidden in the patina under the globe on the reverse. Slightly glossy very dark olive brown and steel, nearly black. Double struck over a NOVA CONSTELLATIO copper. The offset between the strikes is significant with one impression about 40% off center and the other centered on the planchet. Bold evidence of the two strikes is visible on both sides. Late die state with a bold die crack at the back of the head. The 178 is clear but the second 8 is faint at best. Most of the legends are clear on the centered strike. Comes with a nice provenance. Weight 103.4 grains.

AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2020 and by appointment.
