Variety with a Small Planchet and Plain Shield. Choice glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth and flawless with just a touch of wear on the devices. Mint frost covers the fields and protected areas and this is a superior New Jersey copper. The only defects are a minor planchet clip over the P in PLURIBUS and a slightly larger one over that I, plus some tiny planchet flakes over the second U in UNUM (all as struck). Later die state with extensive die clashing evident on the obverse and obvious swelling over the date. Our grade is AU50 Choice. Comes with a remarkable provenance that includes several of the most prominent collectors of early American coinage. Weight 145.7 grains. (The slab is scuffed.)
