Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. The surfaces are smooth except for a spot of dark planchet slag imbedded into the planchet near the end of the hair ribbon and a small planchet chip in the field before the eye. A curved planchet clip touching the top of NN in CONNEC can help identify this piece. Rare very late die state with a bold "Horn" up from the bust. This break is quite wide, considerably wider than the horn on the preceding example. The die clashmarks at the R in AUCTORI are clear. The date is bold and the legends are strong. This example was plated in the January 1973 issue of the Colonial Newsletter, (Volume 12, number 1, page 385) to illustrate the very late die state. Weight 105.2 grains. Comes with a nice provenance.
