Rather glossy light to medium chocolate brown. The planchet is mostly smooth, especially on the reverse which is nearly flawless, but there is minor granularity in the area before the forehead. Some small nicks are scattered over the obverse, mostly on the portrait. A planchet cutter error created an irregular clip above the back of the head that can easily identify this piece. The attribution was added in white ink before the neck and chin. The bottom of the 87 is off the planchet but the rest of the date is complete and the legends are strong. Certainly among the finer pieces known of the variety. And it comes with a nice provenance. Weight 162.7 grains.

AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2020 and by appointment.

Lots will open at one increment above second highest mail/phone bidder.
