Double Struck. An "ET LIR" variety. Glossy medium brown with light reddish chocolate toning in protected areas. There is minor chipping in the centers but the main feature of this piece is a large, jagged planchet fissure at the left top of the obverse. The only other defect is a pit on the shoulder of the seated figure, and at the bottom of the pit is a speck of greenish verdigris. Struck off center to K-2 on the obverse, K-5 on the reverse. The lower half of the date is off the planchet but the rest of the date and legends are clear. The obverse was struck twice with a half-millimeter shift between the impressions. The doubling on the reverse is more subtle, clearest on the outstretched arm of the seated figure. A difficult piece to grade due to the flaws, but some areas look Extremely Fine. Comes with a nice provenance. Weight 129.9 grains.
