Glossy medium brown blending to light chocolate in protected areas. Traces of frost show in protected areas and this piece offers excellent eye appeal. The planchet is smooth except for the usual chipping in the centers and a few fissures. The fissures are a diagonal one on the jaw at the throat, a small one at the dentils above the bouquet, and another on the knees of the seated figure. The only contact mark is a rim bruise over the R in AUCTORI. Nicely struck and nearly centered on the planchet. The date and legends are complete and strong. There is a small tab on the planchet (extra planchet metal) over NEC that can quickly identify this piece. Rather early die state with minor swelling in the field before the portrait. Finer than the Taylor, Perkins, and Ford pieces. A superior example of this surprisingly tough variety. Weight 121.6 grains.

AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2020 and by appointment.

Lots will open at one increment above second highest mail/phone bidder. Bidding will proceed as competition dictates with the lot either selling to the floor or to the mail/web bidder at one increment above the second highest bid.
