A STATES UNITED variety. Lustrous mint red mellowing to steel brown with at least a third of the planchet showing underlying mellowed mint color. The planchet is quite nice for one of these cents showing only microscopic chips, mostly on the upper left rings on the reverse. A stain of darker toning at the top of the date is the only notable distraction. Later die state with the usual clashmarks on the obverse and die crack at the bottom of the reverse. Most likely a survivor from the Bank of New York Hoard that was dispersed over 100 years ago. Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63. Listed on page 84 in the 2023 "Redbook." Housed in an older generation PCGS slab. (The slab is scratched on the reverse)
