Slightly glossy dark olive brown with light brown on the devices. Looks smooth to the unaided eye but both sides are covered with extremely fine roughness. No verdigris and the only marks are a rather fresh nick on the rim at the E in CONNEC, a minor rim bruise under the 87, and a fine vertical planchet fissure through the outstretched hand (as struck). The two-tone appearance accents the devices and this piece has nice eye appeal in spite of the imperfect surfaces. Late die state with obvious swelling off the chin and along the lower part of the obverse.
