A CONNECT variety. Frosty medium brown and light chocolate. The fields are lustrous in many of the protected areas and the eye appeal of this piece is excellent. There is no hint of corrosion, only small planchet fissures, strongest at TO in AUCTORI. No contact marks, just very light wear on the devices. Late die state with a very large and quite deep cud break on the right side of the reverse, the so-called "Fatal Break" die state. The opposing NE in CONNECT are weak because the cud consumed so much of the planchet metal. This piece is far superior to the Miller-Ford and the Taylor-Perkins examples, clearly a candidate for finest known honors. Removed from a PCGS holder graded AU55+ (special PCGS label #685109.55+/46983565 included, and it shows the attribution and Syd Martin collection provenance). Weight 149.7 grains.
