The obverse is weaker thanks to a mushy strike from a worn out die while the reverse is sharper. The surfaces are mostly smooth but there are some shallow planchet flakes on the reverse, mostly at the head and feet of Liberty. The only contact marks are a few light scratches on the obverse. Mostly glossy steel brown and light chocolate. Struck unevenly with weakness at the bottom of the obverse and the opposing area along the left edge of the reverse (struck with the reverse rotated 90 degrees clockwise). The date is easily readable although the 1 is a bit weak. Not perfect but still one of the finer examples known of this very rare variety. And it has a nice provenance. Weight 140.0 grains.
