Glossy brown and light chocolate. The surfaces are smooth except for several planchet fissures on both sides, as nearly always seen on this variety. The largest fissure is at the bottom of the neck. No verdigris and the only contact mark is a tiny rim nick at the E in INDE. Late die state with obvious swelling on the lower part of the portrait. Graded VF30 and considered CC#6 or 7 for the variety by Syd Martin. Many of the details would support that assessment but the swelling associated with the late die state caused loss of detail, especially on the portrait. However the superb color and surfaces (minus the usual fissures) are certainly consistent with a higher grade. The Ford and Perkins examples of the variety are rough with fissures but earlier die states that show a bit more detail. Removed from a PCGS holder graded F12 (PCGS label #685162.12/45294560 included, and it shows the attribution and Martin collection provenance). Weight 133.7 grains. Comes with a nice provenance.

AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2025 and by appointment.

Lots will open at one increment above second highest mail/phone bidder.
