1778 Rhode Island Ship Medal Restrike in Sterling Silver MS60

Frosty silvery gray. Sharply struck and flawless. These were made in 1936 by order of Horace M. Grant, proprietor of Grant's Hobby Shop in Providence, Rhode Island. They were struck by the Robbins Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts in bronze and silver. The silver planchets were cut by hand. According to Grant only 12 of the silver strikes were produced. The initials of Mr. Grant (H.M.G.) are positioned on the waves below the ship to clearly differentiate his restrikes from the originals. Weight 250.2 grains.
